Dont supose there is a wireless thing you can get instead of a crossover cable??
synch
09-10-2005, 08:23 PM
You can use a wireless link if you want. You'd either need a wireless router and a wireless to ethernet devices or two wireless to ethernet devices. In that second scenario your pc would have to stay on if you want to play.

I did speak to a computer expert & he said using the router to get my wireless connection upstairs would be fine & i shouldnt have any lag. Just a tad worried after reading certin things, i want it to play like i was sitting next to somebody playing in my room on the same PS2.....

Can I get a wireless adapter for my ps2 adapter, rather than running the via ethernet cable?
What if someone pauses their game against you?
what is someone loses connection, or quits the connection when you're 4-0 up or something?
What if you've got a memory card saved with kits, and real team names etc..
does it default to the original details?

Can I get a wireless adapter for my ps2 adapter, rather than running the via ethernet cable? yes, see a few posts above yours, you still need the wired adapter for the ps2 though
What if someone pauses their game against you? you can pause a limited amount of times and for a limited time only. When you pause the game a timer starts running backwards, when it reaches 0 the game is resumed whether that person is there or not
what is someone loses connection, or quits the connection when you're 4-0 up or something?I think you get awarded a 3-0 victory if a team disconnects OR three goals get added to what you already had, so in your scenario 7-0. Not sure though. Everyone has a "disconnected" field in their profile, when you disconnect (whether its voluntarily or non voluntarily) it gets upped by one
What if you've got a memory card saved with kits, and real team names etc..
does it default to the original details?online play uses the default kits, names and formations
There ya go.

People, it just hit me. I don't know if you have it in the UK but here you can get something called "powerplug".
You plug it into the mains and plug the ethernet cable from the device to your ps2. You do the same in any other place in your house (if they share an electrical circuit that is) and you plug the other adapter in either your pc or a router.
That way you can have a network over the power lines in your house.

Basically, whoever sets up the room, hosts. So the first half will have no lag for the hoster. the hostee will get a bit, but nowhere as bad as the xbox pes4 version. In the second half, the hostee becomes the host and the host previously becomes the hostee therefore there's an equal share of lag, so not an issue.
It's still damn good though. Me and my mate played 2 player last night. Works well, although generally online seems faster gameplay than the offline version.
Senden
14-10-2005, 11:55 AM
It will seem faster but i am sure it is the same, would be a bit stupid making the gameplay faster as it would add to the lag. I just have my fingers crossed that someone on adsl can host effectively as there are quite a few of us :).

No, it is faster as they've cut out some of of the more intricate animations. i.e. it's easily to get away with fouls that you would usually get pulled up for in offline mode too.
It is faster.
Doesn't matter who hosts, unless each person had a 1mb upload speed as the host effectively switches to make it fair.

iirc, most cable in the UK is more crippled when it comes to upload than ADSL
cable - 128kbps, adsl - 256kbps.
Things are changing with LLU but thats not very common place at the moment

LLU is a wonderful thing it's just a shame that a very small percentage of us can get it. It also stops BT being money hogs with isps using their phone lines, as it stands adsl could be a LOT cheaper than it currently is as companies like UKOnline have shown with their LLU packages.

hey guys, not soundin stupid or anythin but whats a ethernet cable....i mean what do they look like exactly?http://www.veriteq.com/images/ethernet-white.jpg
I am curious about why the cable is blue but the filename of the picture is "ethernet-white.jpg"...
Mysteries of the net I guess...
They are usually beige/white and have one of those on each side. They are the same as isdn cables but using an isdn device on a lan or a lan device on an isdn line will fry one, the other or both.
The slot looks like this: (top row, middle slot)

You can post your questions about this in the special on-line-FAQ
http://www.pesfan.com/bulletin/showthread.php?t=85634
Bit pitty to post them all on the place were people like to read what PES 5 online gaming is all about.
I still hope for an answer if you can play with a master-league team on-line.
The place were you probably can find out should be in the general team-selection screen, where you see all continents (Europe, Africa, south America, etc. ).
There the ML symbol should be.
So please can somebody check that out?
Of course, you should already have made your saved ML, else there is nothing to load of course

is playing online like playing a one player game or a 2 player game?? as in if ur opponent has a corner do you see it from whatever view you are using or do you see it from the view in which u take a corner like in 2 player? Also can you both be using different views? and finally :) how is pausing the game and replays dealt?
dragonskin

Playing online is just like playing an exhibition mode match. You see the corner like you would when the computer takes one. I'm sure you can use different views as you're on different TV sets, and you have a maximum of 3 pauses with the replay option disabled.

Bah! I can't beleive konami have screwed up the rankings again.. After so money emails and phone calls last year regarding PES4's messed up system they still can't get it right.
Awarding 25 points to each player when a draw occurs just brings points into the system and it's totally wrong.. This means that the top players will be those that play more matches as before.. and so the rankings are a total farce.
Why they can't just use the industry standard ELO system i will never know.. Especially after promises from konami uk when i called them last year that it will be implemented in this version.
It looks like you start with 0 ranking points too, which proves to show that it's done completely wrong... Everyone should start with 500 points and then the ELO formula applied after each match.. It's just too easy for words and i pray that enough people get this changed otherwise it's another year of pointless rankings again and everyone's hopes of setting up leagues to see who is the best etc is out of the window... It's gonna be leagues to see who has played the most basically.
Well annoyed by that!! :(

A bit of info to let you know what it's going to be like.
Once you've been through the fairly simple registration process, you get the following menu options:
Match Lobby
Quick Match
Network Options
Information
Logout
You have 10 main servers with 10 lobby's off of each of them. You can browse most of them at will, though some are locked dependant on your place in the rankings. You can also have a 'Quick Match', which just grabs you an opponent at random.
To counter any lag that may occur, at half time you get swapped around, so nobody hosts for the whole game. So it kind of evens it up a little.
There's a basic set of phrases you can use to communicate quickly, though you can edit them to what ever you like. This can be either amusing or extremely annoying, dependant on whether you're playing me or not. :D And obviously you also have the option to input text via the gamepad as well if you want, at half time or full time.
At the moment the PESFan refs are the only people in the world on the thing, so it's a bit lonely. Though it has enabled us to establish that i'm a bit rubbish. Hope to see you all on there in a few weeks though.

To be fair fifa has lobbies etc.
Hanterp, thanks for that link... I really hope you are right about that.. But hearing that two players on here drew with one another and gained 25 points tells me otherwise... I don't think Konami quite understand that an ELO system involves a pre-determined formula... Not just that you get more points for beating higher teams.. Which is what it appears they think it means.
Fingers crossed though.. I'm so excited about getting my hands on the game and taking it online, the only way is down from here.. :(

Where did you read that? If an online game is a draw it goes straight to penalties. The person that wins gets some points (not sure how many) but the person that loses the penalty series gets no points (as opposed to points deducted when you lose a game after 90 minutes).

I never bothered about my ranking on pes4 and i wont with pes5. I prefer to play with the guys in the league as after a while you get to know them and it becomes more of a rivalry than just some other bloke who you never played before.
skijumptoes
19-10-2005, 07:54 PM
It's not a case of whether you're bothered about them or not, its the point that they've put them in so they should make them correct for those people who like to see how they compare to friends and other players around the world.
Fifa eases it, and i find it hard to beleive that EA sports can manage to do something that konami repeatedly can't!
They're selling the online side like its some major innovative achievement when in fact it appears they cant get the basics right... It's better than last years which is good.. But they need to be pushed and patch it..
Please people, it will create a much stronger following online and prevent idiots from cheating the system.
Online leagues are great, but i've got a little 8 week year old boy and so it isn't fair if i sign up to one and can't play games and let others down, if konami just used the standard ELO formulas that are available there would be no problem and this would truly kick'ss online.
Also you can filter the leaderboards to only show your friends so the rivalry you have is with people you know.. but there's no point competing in who's had the most games played.. whats the point in that?! We can see that on the GP column.

skijumptoes
19-10-2005, 08:03 PM
I'm referring to the xbox version, as thats what i will be playing.
Also the calculations are all server side on their rankings database, all their database receives is a player ID and the result, the rest is processed there so they've just got to change the formulas it uses for appending the rankings.
I hope people do make a bit of noise about it, im particullary p'd off as i spoke to konami for 3 weeks solid about rankings on PES4 for xbox live and they said that they would have patched it but the game had been out for a few weeks and people would complain if the stats got reset.
So, they told me it would definetly be put in for PES5... And it looks like it isnt.. I will be on the phone to them tomorrow no doubt, and i really hope that this time they sort it.. cause its such a small change that could really improve the game for those who like to compete. For me each game becomes vital and holding on for a draw is much more nerve wracking when it means i save my points. :D
I will probably be ranked in the 1000's, so its not like im a points whore.. I just like to know where i stand with my friends and have the odd banter amongst us.

they said that they would have patched it but the game had been out for a few weeks and people would complain if the stats got reset.
And they reset them anyway.
What's this business about the hosting changing at half time? Have they still done it wrong but get around it like this? Does the host still get the smooth game, so now one half is smooth and the other is laggy?
If this is the case and they haven't coded it properly again, then I'm not buying it. Mind you, I wouldn't buy it anyway if they've knobbed the rankings again as it makes the matches pointless.
Sure FIFA is not quite as good a game but as an online experience the emotions are superb. If I lose on FIFA I get the hump as it makes a big difference to my world ranking, I then try doubly hard in the next game to start earning those points back. if I lose on PES I just shrug my shoulders and go and pay something else, there is absolutely no meaning to winning or losing matches if it isn't properly implemented.
If Konami have (a)Not got a proper ELO and (b)Can't work out how to program a game so that lag is even for both players, then they are a bunch of half wits who deserve to go out of business.
I'll wait for the release to reserve final judgement but I'm certainly not buying it untill these things are clarified.

I do understand what you are saying about the points system & it would be nice if they sorted it but the only reason i play pes is for the realisim! If your ranking doesnt reflect the type or level of player you are then realise this, everybody will feel the same & know that the rankings system is not a true reflection.
Myself I just want to go online & play players of a high standard to which Im sure there will be loads, this will improve me as a player & when my friends & I play the bar will again be raised but this time to a level thats never been seen before. Dont get all pent up about rankings if you want to prove you are of a high standard or the best then just go along to tournaments or even better Im sure once everybody gets used to the game they may even do mini online cups etc in 1 night as there are rooms you go into accessed by a pasword.
Get over it fellas its the game we love right??
skijumptoes
19-10-2005, 11:44 PM
Sainty, if you want to play players of a high standard then a decent ranking system helps you play these players, however if it is neglected you will be at the mercy of people who just want to cheat points out of you.
It's the online game that i want to love, i dont care about offline personally.... And so if they screw up a major part of the online element then it's a poor reflection on the game overall from my point of view.
Personally i like to compete without the need to sign up to sites and swap msn details to see when each other are gonna be online etc. Turn the box on, play a game.. and let the rankings ingame do the work..
It's a pity you cant see the further attraction this offers to the game, most online sports titles have this feature and the most annoying thing is that they've done the hard part in coding a pretty decent game.. And they fall down on the parts that even i could manage!!! :(
Bounty Bob
19-10-2005, 11:47 PM
Dont get all pent up about rankings if you want to prove you are of a high standard or the best then just go along to tournamentsBut I'm not that good, I'm not talking about having proper rankings so that I can be number one, I'm talking about having them to bring meaning to the matches. Without a ranking system to give me something to chase, I might as well be playing the cpu. I don't play against the CPU because it's boring and the games have no meaning, woo I can beat a computer, big deal.
For me there is a buzz to playing a ranked match where I can go up or down depending on the result. Sure it's not the be all and end all, what's the point of having rankings if the game is poo. But even an average game can be raised by a decent ranking system making it highly enjoyable. If you have a good game and proper rankings it's an unbeatable combination.
I understand that many people aren't bothered but there's no reason for anyone to say it's fine without it. If you enjoy the game enought to play it anyway then rankings can't hurt can they? It's not like you suddenly wouldn't play if they were there is it?

Sainty, if you want to play players of a high standard then a decent ranking system helps you play these players
That's a good point also. Proper rankings enable proper match making. If I log on and want to play people of a similar skill level, how do I find them without a true ranking system? If I want to play people better, how do I find them?

To be fair fifa has lobbies etc.
Hanterp, thanks for that link... I really hope you are right about that.. But hearing that two players on here drew with one another and gained 25 points tells me otherwise... I don't think Konami quite understand that an ELO system involves a pre-determined formula... Not just that you get more points for beating higher teams.. Which is what it appears they think it means.
Fingers crossed though.. I'm so excited about getting my hands on the game and taking it online, the only way is down from here.. :(
I still has hopes because of the very last sentence in that link which says: "We will constantly monitor and adjust the formulas to ensure a fair playing field for everyone, we reserve the right to change and alter all rankings at anytime."
Still I agree with you that the way draws are calculated is NOT ELO!
A draw should be winnerspoints divided by two and loserpoints divided by two.

And they fall down on the parts that even i could manage!!!
are you just going to criticise the game in every post you make, can you not see the game for what it is???
i am waiting for online play as well, but i am not bothered about "ranking up" if i get a decent game of football...you are counting your chickens before they hatch...how do you know the ranking system is going to work the way you say it is???
tommorrow we will all find out

Hanterp, the site which you're reading the ELO statement from is not actually anything to do with the game, its just the latest incarnation of pes-league, so they are probably not Konami's words... I really hope they are though, as you say its promising if so.
Jordi, i'm not criticising the game whatsoever, konami made a lot of promises regarding the online play of this years title, and they're putting it into a lot of advertising and hyping the online features of the game too... So it's only right that if they're gonna employ a system they should do it right.. Look, i don't care about what balls are in the game, or licensed teams.. But for some people this is major, just as a good online system is a major point to me... But i don't complain a people who like to see different balls and licensed teams... Cause i respect their opinion.
The reason i know it's not an ELO system is because you start from 0 points... If everyone started from 0 points then how the hell can you beat anyone to gain points yourself? Well, simple you get points for every game you get regardless.. its the only way... As such you open the game up to idiots who will cheat their way through it.
If you're happy playing people who will disconnect the game when you're playing then fine.. cross your arms and don't worry about the ranking system, likewise if you're happy to play what you think is a player of equal ability to you (i.e. someone around the same rank) only to find that they either a) thrash you to pieces or b) are totally inapt at playing a decent game.. Then hey, don't worry about the ranking system....
These are major plus points of employing an ELO system into the game for those that don't even care about rankings... You may not realise how much they improve an online game.. But trust me, they do.
I'm hoping that ELO kicks in when you're in the higher divisions, and they use the lower divisions for gamers to build their points up... If this is true then i may go drive up to konami hq and kiss each and every one of them!! :D
And for the record i'm not concerned about 'ranking up' either.. I would be in the thousands anyway, it's just that i like to be able to play people of equal skill to myself which ensures a much tighter better game, and i could do this by only playing people around my rank... Makes sense i think.
Fingers crossed...

is a 44kb/s upload good enough?? i dunno why but my upload is ranked at 3 stars on testmy.net while my download is 4 and a half?
skijumptoes
20-10-2005, 03:10 PM
44k is ok yeah, thats equivalent of 352kB/s, most adsl is 256kB/s.
You only need 128k upload usually, theres sod all data sent when compared to sending data such as images and music etc. But there's a lot of small data, so the thing to watch out for is the latency on your connection. Everyone talks about their 8m connections being superior.. Well when you consider that a game doesnt use over 512k (0.5m) the extra 7.5m is of no use whatsoever.

So far I've played 6 won 6 :D
If anyone ever wants a game my name is NeilShipperley :cheesy:
The ranking for me that matters, is my win to lose ratio. Im not bothered about points. Saying that thought, alot of people are, and hopefully Konami can fix this so everyone can enjoy online.
Im looking forward to taking part in online leagues and other things cant wait :D 12 hours, and it should be here woo :D

I use Broadcasting off line
Can you choose on line? or will your opponent be able to have what ever angle they want?
AceRimmer
20-10-2005, 07:27 PM
You can choose whatever angle you like. When you get the ball, kick it out of play or whatever, press start, then change to whatever camera you like.
I'd advise using the wide camera angle. You see far more of the play, and see more of the potential passes.

Mark27, Im having the same problem. Ive spoken to Konami who have said they have had loads of complaints about this abut nothing can be done until Monday. If you wish to call them yourself, their number is 0208 9875730.
I got through in about 4 rings and some girlie answered. I explained that my connection has been tested and worked (plus I play other games with the same setup) and she then said its being looked into.....
Im gutted, was ready for a weekend of not moving except for food n toliet...

Okay, another question about the rankings. I'm currently ranked around place 1000, but what is it with these leagues (which you can view if you look at your main menu and then press start and then - league forecast -. I'm placed in the middle of div 2, but when is this division thing really launched? Is it getting launched? Please update me on this one, I love the online playing but don't have a clue what the different leagues are meant to be...

right a simple solution to this problem is that you need a static ip address for those of you that are having problems...
stick your network access disc in that you got free with the network adaptor or if you haven't got one you need one from sony, ring their helpline up and they should supply one for free
basically you need to set all the numbers up manually, don't configure them so that they sign up automatically...i repeat...put them in manually
your IP address should be as follows...
IP address 192.168.1.100
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway should be 192.168.1.1
and the dnas the same
set this as your second setting should you already have a setting, just incase things go wrong
then go into your router settings and set it as the dmz address...then reboot the router
boot pes5 up and try getting in again...
any troubles, contact me jordan_campbell@hotmail.co.uk or email me jordi20012002@gmail.com
this has worked for 2 people i know, i may have got the last number wrong, the default gateway number so i just need to confirm this, but try it out anyways
good luck to those involved
