How long have you been playing PES and what do you like most about it?
I have been playing PES since the old ISS days on the Super Nintendo.
Things that I like about the series are how they were impressive simulations back in the day, but more recently the main positive has been the improved signs that Konami are listening to the fans (ie this post MAY have a chance of implementation ... if there is another god - the first being Mr Pleat of course).
My suggestion is: Konami should hire David Pleat as co-commentator ... (and drop Lawrenson)
The one aspect of PES that has always been a major sticking point for the PES purists amongst us, has been the infallability of Konami to pair up one well-suited commentator, with a jibbering idiot for each of the more recent releases. Think Peter Brackley (good) and Trevor Brooking (bad), think Jon Champion (good) and Mark Lawrenson (awful). The past record of pairing a good main commentator with a poor co-commentator hits you in the face like a Castolo daisycutter.
Well, with the sad, sad news breaking today to all fans of UK terrestrial football viewing that the most talented, technically astute and entertaining analyst in the game, David Pleat has been sacked by ITV Sport, Konami should pounce on the opportunity to utilise this man's football talent and bring hope back to the masses - whilst naturally getting rid of Mark Lawrenson in the process, in what I shall call the 'Down With Lawro CAMPaign' .
Why should I add a 'yes' vote to this suggestion might ask, and with good reason. Let me remind you:
- David Pleat has been entertaining and informing fans of the beautiful game for many years now with his knowledgable exchanges on ITV Sport in their European coverage. He's a legend in his own lifetime.
- David's unmistakable style would be ideally suited to the PES series. Sure he gets some player names wrong, but Konami's licensing restrictions in this area, may mean he can call them by their Konami names instead (not deliberately), resulting in an improved acceptance of Konami's licencing situation as Pleat's dulcet tones ease the player's frustrations with EA franchise's long-term league deals.
- With Pro Evolution Soccer having an established history of importance on the wide players in a team, Pleat's vast knowledge of 'wingplay' may be precisely the tonic that is needed when explaining why a move has developed as it has out wide on the pitch.
So add your vote to this suggestion people, and perhaps the history of one good/one bad can be put to rest, as we have the potential of Champion/Pleat at our aural receptors. With this dream pairing, surely the 'sight in in end' for all our commentary woes of the past.
A vote for Pleat is a vote towards the dream!
