Just started my first season of BAL 2013..

    Made myself a SS striker..

    Started with 57 rating.

Looking forward to my first game.

Anyway to turn off autosave? Its already getting irritating that it saves every single day that goes by.

Anyone else tried BAL yet, and whats your impressions so far or tips?

Don't have the game yet but you should go options in BAL and press "Autosave" then "disable" like in PES 12.

I cant find any option. I think it might be removed to stop cheating or something.

Just played my first game. Got stuck on the left wing. Not bad. Your players arent as stupid as they used to be and will pass if you make good runs and positions.

I scored but then got subbed at half time. Its only a pre season friendly though.

Theres one bad thing they overlooked this year for some unknown reason other than konami dont think about they are doing enough..

The game does not auto pause for you. So if you are on the bench you have to babysit the entire match as when you come on the game will keep going.. so if you arent watching the game will carry on when you arent moving your player.

I dont know if this happened last year as that game was so awful so I didnt bother with it, but in 2011 it auto paused as soon as you step on the pitch and shows you your position and managers instructions.

Thats another thing, unless I'm missing something, theres no manager instructions anymore. So you pretty much do what ever you like. And you have to check the gameplan to see what position your suppose to play in, and I'm not sure if it changes mid game, but nothing tells you anything.

The game autopaused last season ^ is that taken out now!? I would do some work as I'd wait for my player to get on

How is BAL in general? how is the AI? any changes in general?

AI is pretty good. Not fantastic, but pretty good. You make the right runs and they will pass. Its not like 2011 where they start off like pants and you have to wait half a season for them to start playing.

Theres no manager interaction whatsoever. Its entirely the agent. The manager does no tell you anything. How he wants you to play what he thinks of you or anything.

Theres no tactics board or anything anymore, or any manager interaction whatsoever.

The only thing you can do with the manager is to see a list of players positions and what choice you are. I'm a striker, I play as a striker and sometimes on the left wing, yet on my manager opinion I'm his 3rd choice left back??

Yep, no auto pauses so you have to be very careful if you just leave it. It stops for half time but thats it.

I dont think theres any changes for the better. Its the same as 2011, except the missing things I mentioned, and you can now buy stupid stuff like a exercise bike or a personal trainer to help your stats. You get awarded boots for MOM and stuff that improve your stats.

But the gameplay is not bad. My player already feels pretty good and he is only a 60 rating.

The AI isnt scared to pull of some nice 1-2s with the human which is nice. On past bal I was almost scared to give the ball to the AI teammates as it was such hard work getting it back, but you can use them, and play as a nice team. Even the crap team and players you start with.

They are pretty crap at times but I put that down to them being crap as a whole. Our keeper doesnt save many. We seem to dominate every game but concede every shot on target but again maybe things like that improve as you get to play with better players.

I can imagine it being a joy playing in the barce or arsenal team.

It still feels like the manager interaction is a pretty vital part of the game missing.

But its quite good overall. Stats seem to go up really slow, I dont think one has increased yet even after playing about 10 or more games.

I've played the best part of a season and agree with most of the stuff you've said. As for stats, mine have all gone up 3 in less than a year, meaning my overall has peapt from 51 to about a 58. which isn't ad going. As for the training things you can buy, they really don't impact the game in the slightest. You can only equip 2 items at once and the most they can do is boost a single stat by a couple of points, and the training ones make so little difference it's dificult to tell if they are even doing anything. SDame for boots, they only boost 5 of your stats by a combined total of about 10 or so, it doesn't really make much of an impact on your player.
The WE/PES league players that you start with are beyond awful, especially the keepers, so hopefully they'll play a bit better when I move to a real club. I had to knock it dwon to regular dificulty at first as I was getting so little gametime that I really couldn't afford a rating below a 7 if I ever wanted to even get on the bench (not helped by being assigned to a team without an AMC), but now I've broken into the team I'm able to play on top player and get a more competitive game in. The lack of manager interaction is annoying, same with the removal of the challenges. It feels like they've cut stuff out for no good reason, when you get brought on it doesn't even tell you where you are playing, you have to pause the game and check the gampelan. A bit dissapointed, but still a great game mode

Just as I typed that, the next game all my stats went up 1. Ive just reached december and signed a new agent.

I have played about 10 games, only scored once. I'm on pro atm, but may turn it up. Its enough atm for a decent challenge while not being 2 frustrating.

Our team (I cant pronounce the name or even spell it ) is about 4th of bottom, only scored 3 goals, played about 16 or so.

I've got about 10 goals now, but my guy is a long shot specialist against awful keepers, which helps! Only one assist though as my teammates are allergic to scoring. I am pretty much the frank Lampard of the team, constantly making runs into the box and taking long shots, but offering nothing else to the team. We are near the bottom of the league but I'm at least playing now. You will develop quicker as it goes on as you get more focus points for training after a bit and better teams get more training points aswell. I accidentally moved from europe to south america which was odd, I had to exit and reload the save to make the switch and the season runs at different times so I had to play a month of friendlies then have a month long break before the league started. Very odd, I'm going ot have to try and force a move back to europe as I really don't care about South American football

A have a few comments on this year's BAL, which IMO is much worse than last year's.

I'm now moving towards the end of my first season (april 2013), I've created myself as a SS, here are some points I don't like:

1- The Agent chose a really crap team for me to start in, it's some stupid imaginary team in the stupid imaginary PES league with a bunch of lame teammates with impossible to pronounce names.

2- I'm being played out of position all the time. I still can't make it to the team's bench for the official matches but I'm starting all the friendly matches either as a RMF or a LMF, although I created my alias as a SS with special focus on shooting and speed and much less focus on stamina and defense and now I'm played in positions that require good stamina and a lot of defensive work so I'm performing really bad and I don't get to see the opposition's goal a lot although the one time I had a real chance I scored from it still the manager keeps me in midfield and refuses to play me further up the pitch.

3- My teammates are really really stupid. I disagree with the guys that say they get to see more of the ball than PES2012, I feel quite the opposite. My teammates are a bunch of <snip>. A lot of times I move into excellent positions away from opposition players and wait for a pass that never comes, on the other hand, my teammates seem quite happy to give me the ball when I'm trapped between 3 opposition players. It's as if they hate me and want to put me in bad positions so that I don't convince the manager. In PES2012 I felt my teammates were much much smarter.

4- The elimination of the manager's instructions is a major setback. Those instructions were important to know what the manager expects from you and his opinion of your performance after the game. They also gave a sense of realism to the game.

5-The calender moves very slowly, I don't know why isn't there an option to just skip to the next game you'll be playing instead endlessly waiting for the days to pass and watching my agent telling me that I'll be watching the game from the stands every on single match day.

6- Another thing that needed fixing from last year's edition and is still a boring issue is having to watch the remainder of the match after being substituted. Even at 2X speed it's still a waste of time.

7- The whole new "shop" thing takes a lot of realism out of the game. Purchasing items to give you special or extra powers is something usually associated with adventure games not a supposedly football sim.

All in all, I liked last year's BAL much more than this year. I'm not calling quits and I'll try to continue my career. I just hope the manager starts playing me in my normal position.

    1. same as last year, its completely random nothing to do with agents

    2. has to do with the type of formation your team uses and how your needed at that team (same as last year)

    3. has to do with the team your in, move to a better team

    4. agree

    5. same as last year

    6. --.

    7. agree

    1. I think you should start off at pretty much the bottom. Thats the whole point, but yeah. I cant wait to leave my imaginary team.
    2. I'm sort of playing half the time on the left wing and half the time as striker. I'm starting quite a few games even though I'm not playing that well, so that might be bad luck.
    3. I see alot more of the ball. If you stand in nice positions that are accessible and are unmarked they will pass to me almost everytime, if I;m the best option. Its all about positioning and making the right runs. I'm not saying your not doing that, but thats how its been for me.
    4. I agree.. Why on earth is this missing other than it was rushed?
    5. I agree. It takes long enough as it is without all that unnessesary stuff. And add to that it auto saving all the time. It all mounts up and wastes a hell of a lot of time.
    6. I agree. X10 would be nice. Even x5.
    7. I agree, but I dont see the harm.

And also the auto pausing seems stupid to be removed.

And I agree. 2011s may have even been a better BAL, but the gameplay is better imo. And I'm willing to keep going and see what happens after a few seasons.

Oww, My first January transfer window and I'm trying to instigate a move to anywhere with my agent.

Tried Norwich, got snubbed, Tried Montpelier.. Got snubbed in no uncertain terms.

Then swansea, who have decided to send some scouts to my next match. So hopefully I can impress and leave imaginationland and head to wales. Thats if my manager manages to pick me..

..I guess not. I'm not sure what happened. I wasnt picked and that was the last I heard about it and now its feb.

What manager in the world constantly makes subs 1 second after the 2nd half has started? So why do the ones in BAL?

BAL is the only mode I've really played in PES for the past few years.. so I don't think I will be buying the game because from what I've been told its not changed much.

Would be good if you could actually have a choice of who you go to depending on how you did in trial matches.

    Sigh..PES2014 it is then..
