Returned PES and am sticking with FIFA

Folks before you think it - I am not a FIFA fanboy! I have bought both FIFA 08 and PES 08 on PS3 this year. Having played FIFA for a month there are some little niggly things that bug me with the game BUT PES is horrible! All you do is get some speedy forward and sprint past the defence scoring a placed shot (keepers are dung!). This made me think I'd be playing as legend very quickly BUT defending is awful (and yes i do know how to defend - kept numerous clean sheets - but it's crap). Players run all over the place again!! I needed to take control of a defender (like a sweeper role) and fill the gaps while using second player pressure to steal the ball back. Sounds ok but the satisfaction of tackling has gone. Now with that method the cpu makes or misses the tackle - often missing! Also something that really annoys me with the PES game play is the way the players all "gravitate" into the middle of the attacking zone - they all look like 8 year olds playing football - running into each other, no space for passing, so you end up sprinting down the wings as there are often no AI defenders out there. So with all this (and more but I'm already sad about slating PES) the minor problems with FIFA (poor close up graphics, slower gameplay, mega tough to score) I can live with and prefer it's realism. My advice to any PES fanboys unhappy with PES on PS3 is give FIFA a go - honestly very different to play but better, much better, than PES.
Anyone else agree?

FIFA is good, but it lacks the excitement of PES2008, plus the tricks aren't really worth using unless you play your mates. I swapped FIFA 08 for Pro in the end, as Pro just feels better, FIFA 08 is a great game though, and is a great alternative to Pro if you need a footy game.

A good decision. The first FIFA I've ever bought and no regrets. The best football experience I've ever purchased. There's a few niggles in the gameplay that ironically existed in earlier versions of PES, but the most realistic representation of football to date (apart from dodgy likenesses)

I'll be keeping Pro Evo. But i'll be playing FIFA 08 much more as its a waaaaay better game.

Konami have let us all down this year, the main disappointment for me is the speed of the game, its bloody ridiculous, like an arcade game.

I think we should all return the game on the fact that it's an unfinnished product and the consumer has been conned.

If the 32 or so % of people who voted they are not happy in the poll returned the game then thats gotta turn heads up at Konami HQ and maybe make them pull their finger out for next year.

Had FIFA08 myself for a month, then got PES2008, wanting like hell to love it. I tried and I tried again but it was impossible to accept the arcade feeling and the mediocre gameplay, didnt feel like Pro Evolution anymore!, so I rebooted FIFA08 to compare. At the end of the day I prefer a tough realistic challenge with some flaws rather PES2008's experience.
Overall>
gameplay> FIFA
graphics> FIFA
sound> FIFA (just listen to the fans chants and the stadia presenters)
ball physics> FIFA
closer to reality> FIFA
better close up graphics> PES
edit mode> PES
realistic referee decisions> FIFA
referees on pitch> PES
managment mode> FIFA
goal scoring gradification- variety> FIFA
evolution since last game (FIFA07, PES6) >FIFA
realistic speed>FIFA (try at the legendary level with a decent team)
even nets and goalposts> FIFA has various nets realistically responding nets, rather than the elastic stuff that PES has

I dont like to admit all that but its the truth folks :-(
At the end as I pointed elsewhere its a matter of taste, but if we let Konami get away with that we will never have another decent PES for years!

Totally agree with your review of PES, not that i've tried Fifa!! I have removed PES from my machine and am back playing Formula 1. First time i've ever done that!! You were never able to beat a whole team with one player before, reminds me of old fifa, sucks balls!!

I haven't played it enough to really say whether I hate it or not yet, if I do get annoyed with it I'll get FIFA 08 back

Fair play to you mate. Fifa 08 must be better that PES2008 on the PS3.

I have a 360 and I believe this PEs is the best version ever.
I also bought Fifa 08 this year and I liked it a lot (mainly for the presentation reasons).

I have said to my mates, if PES didn't exist, Fifa 08 would be the dogs...

So if you are a PS3 owner and are suffering from the lag problems on PES, then it may as well not exist....Ergo...Fifa 08 is the only football game for the PS3..Job done
