I gave fifa a chance, boy that was a mistake

Traded in pes 2008 on the ps3 for obvious reasons, and got my self fifa 08. At first I have to say I was impressed. Gameplaywise it is realistic, visually itīs great, wish pes 2009 would look like that. But on the replay or cutscenes the players look really fat.

But, and here is my question to those who like fifa, how do you accept the fact that you cant dribble at all? And you are not in control of whats happening? After 10 games I just couldnīt stand it anymore. I wasnt able to dribble once with a defender close to me. Tried everything, tried to get really close, and then when the defender tried to reach for the ball I go for it as in pes. When you try to turn around or change direction suddenly, he need so many touches that the dribble is not useful. And the biggest mistake is responsive time after pressing a button. It takes ages for the player to pass or dribble after u pushed the button. I played online 5 vs 5, no lagg at all, but it was crazy watching people run into each other all the time cause u canīt dribble or stop when u want to. No control whatsoever on your player. Totally ruins the game. So to you who like fifa, please explain how you manage to play this for a whole year? Seriously.

You call 10 games a chance?! There are people how has had the game since release and haven't mastered the dribbling and you think after 10 games you can?! It's called realism. You're supposed to have many touches to turn around. Give the game more time instead of judging it after 10 games.

I agree with the 5 vs 5 thing but it's not a flaw of the game, it's the users. If you want to play a good 5 vs 5 go to the Fifa 08 thread I'm sure you'll find someone willing to play great team soccer.

We can play Fifa for a whole year because the gameplay is realistic. It's online is great and has no lag. Plus it has so many offline and online features. And it doesn't have half as many bugs as in PES. IMO you should have named this thread "I played FIFA and didn't like it."

ThreadStarter, it's possible to dribble, instead i've already master it, i can do almost anything with just one try.

Well i have a youtube video here, don't expect it to be of much picture quality. And note that that's my initial try and i succeed. Well don't expect to succeed ur dribbling, it takes lots of luck, just like in realife, u don't see every match having people dribbling do you?

i think you've been playing PES for too long. i had the same problem until i realized its a completley different type of game. you cant just pick adriano and dribble through 5 players to score in fifa.

start at the lowest setting, work your way up. its how ive played it since launch and i managed to win a match on legend the other day.

you just need to keep at it. and learn that dribbling isn't the only way to score.

a little tip, holding the player run button while you press pass is very useful, as the passing player will immediatley make a run and wont stop until he is way offside lol (and unlike pes where they stop running after 2 seconds and run back to their goalie)

Erm, is it just me or did you just use the 'trick stick' to do most of that? You were also using one of the best dribblers in the world as well...

I find exactly the same problem in FIFA as the OP. Dribbling and ball control is nowhere near as tight as in PES. And whereas in PES you can easily beat a player 1-1 when you need to, FIFA is nearly impossible without using the trick stick or running around them.

Think of this situation. You have 1 player with the ball facing a line of 3 defenders, wanting to get past this line and score. Now in FIFA apart from sprinting around the till the sidelines the only way to directly beat them is to rely on the trick stick. In PES you have so much more options with sharp sidesteps, turns, with complex tricks being an add-on if you want to get fancy.

Fifa is awful, and PES aint exactly much this year either.

I find Fifa very one dimensional and quite boring, hence hwy i've sold it, it deserves someone who appreciates it more

u cant play it the pes way where u just rush in front and cut in left or right, playing the passing game to beat defenders is the only way if u dont use the trick stick. Manager mode owns the hell out of master league

wow posting, I give fifa a chance thread, but it's pap, in a Pes forum shocker

I have grown to enjoy fifa08, it has clumsy controls to begin with, but once mastered it is a fabulous title, best imho since 94...

But its horse for course, some will like it others will hate it ^ ^

Oh & I played online ps3 version for the first time, 3 wins & 1 defeat

Those sharp sidesteps and turns are in FIFA - the difference is you use thr trick stick to time them, whereas in PES you can do them with just the analogue stick.

What some of the people here said was spot-on. If you don't use trick stick, passing around until the opportunity comes is the way to score in fifa, or u want also can play Wing and cross.

militiaman, you're right i'm using one of the best dribbler in the world, but who would use tricks? it's only those few i can name, ronaldinho, kaka, C.Ronaldo, ribery, all those good rating midfield, anything else i don't think they do so even in realife.

Just take a look at C.Ronaldo, he does get his dribbling messed up at times.

It's as simple as not playing FIFA because the game is just so full of holes it's laughable,

That is incredibly retarded. Basically you hate fifa because you have to use tricks to beat defenders...

...but its ok to use sidesteps and turns (i.e. TRICKS!) in pes?

Because you've played it right?! PES is the game so full of holes. How can anyone consider it a proper sports' title if it barely represents the sport. It has okay gameplay now, It has gotten the cheapest EPL licenses to date. The atmosphere in a PES match is similar to that of a chess match and the commentators are as entertaining as a 0-0 Milan match. The music is terrible. It's like they hired reject bands to play for them. Master League is shallow.

PES has nothing in it's favor above FIFA. Not gameplay (in terms of realism), not audio, not graphics (faces not included), not online, not even reviews(IGN not included because it's obvious they were paid.)

There's your answer right there, OP.

Give it another try without trying all your PES moves. It's tough to break the habits of years but it is possible to dribble in FIFA08. It's a completely different game to PES.
