Still can't compare Armstrong to Bolt though.

Bolt, Phelps, Federer, Messi and Ronaldo are in another league.
They were all household sporting names. Armstrong is the most famous cyclist of all time. I'd say Bolt is the bigger star but to say they can't be compared is bollocks.

And they got away with it for years, and Russia were really nowhere close to the big boys regardless.

Innocent until proven guilty is noble if you think the testing is 100% effective and there's no loopholes. It isn't and there are many. Wiggins got to stuff himself with steroids before big races for 'asthma' because he got an exemption slip. Cycling at least has a lot more suspicion around cyclists now than athletics that just blindly holds people up as clean. Cyclists are pushed to provide data and blood test results etc.

I mean it goes both ways too. Blake was unlucky because he got slapped for something that was just similar to a banned substance. Sharapova took meldonium for years and didnt know it had been added to the banned list when she was caught. But then how many more people need to he caught taking any substances before people assume it's more common than not for someone to be on it?

100% they'd cover up Bolt though. Athletics would be dead as a serious sport if he popped. He could just be a freak of nature though.

It's not even her main event - she's better at the 1000 and 1500m.

They're a lot less middle class than they used to be in the era before lottery funding. Back then, we only had a handful of competitors who were all fairly posh (Martyn & Graham Bell, Konrad Bartelski, Robin Cousins), and [mostly] massively shite. Nowadays we've been employing very expensive coaches and putting better training facilities in place for the past 20+ years, so we've won more medals each time.

I watched the BBC summary of Day 1 thing on Saturday night and it got massively on my tits, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. I kind of wanted them all to fall over and I'd actually find it quite amusing if we came home with no medals at all, never mind the low-end target of 4.
