That's THE single best piece of defensive advice going. Other than fouling like mad in the last 15 minutes it's the only way you can counter the opponent. The game will do it's utmost to pull your defenders away from the striker giving him loads of space.

I've never had such a love hate relationship with a game.

Yup, the best way of doing what shaun describes is to NOT press , instead hold so another defender tracks the COM runner on the wing. You then control the guy with the cursor and make sure you DON'T go after the ball, instead move him into the penalty area to manually mark the COM strikers and therefore defend any cross that is sent in (assuming that the guy you sent to track the run using hasn't already won the ball for you).

I find this an extremely effective way to defend, and hardly ever lose any goals from crosses since i started using it.

I have found that if you "cut off his options" the player with the ball does not know what to do and often runs into one of your other defenders anyway and Ted you are spot on with that idea, I find most of the CPU attacks are broken up like that.

Scripting or contexts is where the actual gameplay takes a back seat for a moment or two for excitement/unpredictability purposes.

Here we see game physics take a back seat this time round. Probably to bring the score from 2:0 to 2:1. The guy in front might be forced to hit the post a lot, the opponents AI switched to Legendary difficulty, etc.
